MegaMall... hmmmm....

Hola!  Today we took the bus in the other direction.  Okay... I'll admit it...  I don't know my directions here...  but... I think we went east...  over towards San Jose.  In fact, we were VERY close to San Jose.  Maybe a couple more bus stops and we'd be there... because you could see the airport in the valley below the mall.

Back up a little...  we took a bus trip over to the mall.  It's called a MultiPlaza....  HUGE!  I had a specific item in mind that I wanted to buy so off we went...

We got there too early.  Like the malls in the USA it didn't open until 10am.  But...  unlike most malls we've been to, you couldn't actually walk beyond the front doors until 10am.  In my home town, there are the "mall walkers" who log hundreds... probably thousands of miles....doing laps before the mall opens for business.  Not here...  security guards have clip boards to register people who are authorized.  Obviously, we weren't so we sat around and watched the people who were probably coming to work.

I am absolutely fascinated by the young women who wear stretch pants so tight they look like a second skin...  and then wear shoes with a platform base...  AND at least a 4" heel!  Heck, I'd break my neck just getting off the bus.....  Oh well...  maybe I would have worn that stuff 40 or 50 years ago....

Anyway...  the mall opened...  we wandered around looking at stuff..
Now, truth is, we could have been in a mall anywhere...  many of the same stores we see in the USA.  Only thing is, the informational signs are in Spanish...  really bringing home to us the need to become more prolific in Spanish.

I saw this luggage shop...  and in the window were these displays...

I pointed out this VERY colorful display to Bill and asked him if he'd  travel with me if I carried such luggage.

Now... here I'll mention that I am totally blah...  I don't think I own anything plaid...  or striped...  or polka dot...  I don't think I have anything fuschia or chartreuse...

I am blah...

Tan, brown, khaki, yellow, green...  real earth colors.

So...  what did Bill answer?

He said if we carried that luggage it would sure as heck be different than anyone else's...  and we'd have no problem at the luggage carrosel identifying our own.

Smart Man, Bill.

I said that I was looking for a certain item...  I wasn't going to write about it...  but...  I was looking for cotton underwear.  I'm talking Fruit of the Looms...  basic....  granny panties.....  Yeah, I brought plenty of underwear...  but... thinking along the line of how long it takes stuff to dry (and, boy!  was I wrong about that!), I thought...  nylon.   WRONG!  I'll just say right now that nylon underwear is NOT the kind of stuff you want to wear here.  I won't go into it any further...  just will add that I didn't find any....

Hey...  the mall even had a Victoria's Secret...
Again...  hardly my style...  leather and rivets?  Don't think so...

Now...  here's my kind of store...
Oh My Goodness!  They even had sections in various languages...
I know where I'd hang out if I lived here year-round!

Okay...  we spent quite a while walking around...  this mall is 3 stories high...  has 3 department stores and I have no idea how many other shops.  And a huge food court....  and a big play area for kids....  and....  more than we wanted to see.

We walked around long enough...  decided to catch the bus and head back to Cuidad Colon...
We waited for the right bus to come along....

It did...

Standing room only for the first 15 minutes...  that's okay...  it's only about a half hour ride.

We got back to our little town, did some grocery shopping before we headed home.  We go shopping nearly every day.  Not because we're starving or anything, but because we carry everything either in our backpack or in bags for about 3/4 mile home.   Even though the taxi is only $2, we both like the walk.

Just a couple more pictures before I close...
Just another picture of the Rufous Tail Hummingbird...
He's staked out a claim on the feeder....  has his favorite perch to watch if any interlopers happen along.
Yep!  This Plain Capped Starthroat hummer is a frequent visitor now.

It took us forever to finally identify this guy...  he stayed way up in the big tree above us until just today.  Now he's found the feeder and visits it often.

We are fortunate to have found this house that is on the edge of town.  The birding here is fantastic...  there were 2 blue-crowned motmots here this morning...  there's always something!  And we keep seeing new (to us) species.

One really nice thing...  today we heard from our friend, Paul, who is a volunteer at Eastern Shores NWR.  We met him at Crystal River NWR in 2005 and have caught up with him off and on over the years.  It always is such a good thing to hear from old friends again.

That's All For today....

  1. Good luck finding your cotton drawers! Love that granny stuff...

We have two large malls in Eugene and they even have mileage markers and routes along the mall walkways. Lots of mall walkers in the early morning hours.

  2. When I started to read your blog, I thought, "Oh just a visit to a mall." But it turned out to be a great blog, revealing in bits and pieces about your personality and I love it. What a gal!

  3. It is amazing that you can travel the world and still end up in a shopping mall that looks exactly like home.

I would think -- if you wore the rivets on the inside -- they would feel very cool against your skin. And I now know more about your underwear than I really wanted to know!

  4. I was always surprised when I recognized a store that we have in the US.
There seems to be Kentucky Fried Chicken in every country!
