Aroostook to Athens... 1,259 miles

We left Aroostook NWR on Sunday...  headed south

Left the "Moose" warnings behind...
Goodbye Moose....

 And the changing maple leaves...
Goodbye Maple Leaves...

Left Maine...  then across the lower part of New Hampshire
Which have liquor and lottery stores right along the highway....  This always just amazes me...

And into Massachusetts...
Traffic was heavy at times..

Around Springfield...
NEVER into Boston!

On across Connecticut and into New York where we visited our daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter and great-granddaughter.  Wonderful visit, but very short...

Across into Pennsylvania... and down to a town close to Delaware.  I wanted to find a geocache in Delaware to add that souvenir to our collection...  YEAH!  Now we have found caches in 48 states!

This took us down into the rolling hills...  part of the Appalachians...  and through the only tunnel on this trip...
Lehigh Tunnel

And into Pennsylvania Dutch country...
How often are you behind a horse and buggy when stopped at a traffic light?

Or how often do you see folks harvesting corn with machetes?
Hard Work!!!!

We chose to drive Rt 30...  the Lincoln Highway...

A few years ago we lived on the Lincoln Highway...  in Utah!  I painted the road signs to make them look nicer.....  What a LONG way that old highway stretches!!!

Through Gettsyburg...
We didn't stop this time...  just moved on.

Over to I81...  then down into Maryland...
Of course we didn't see any wildlife...
But..
I watched!!!!

And then into West Virginia
Foggy mountains...  steep inclines....  Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia!

Time to cross the Ohio River...
This is a relatively new bridge....  very nice!

Here's where I start to get kind of teary...
Only about 30 miles from "home"....

We turn off onto a county road...
Narrow...  more narrow than we remembered....
At least there's no traffic....

And then...
We park in our "spot"...
"Our" house has been rented out for nearly 12 years now...
But, before we hit the road, Bill put in a dump station and a hook-up for our rig...
One of these days he'll make this into a concrete pad ....
But, for now....
It's home again...

We'll be here until Wednesday...  then fly out to Seattle...
Leaving our rig here for a couple of weeks...

It's always a new adventure!!!!

That's All for Today!

  3. It's beautiful going through the states, isn't it? we stopped at a rest area near Toledo and I-290 that had electric hookups and a special parking lot for RVers. Surprising! That's a great idea to have a landing spot with your very own full hookup. Is it on your rental property?

  9. Oh, I felt like I was traveling with you from the pics! Those Amish are hard working people. I was around several of them on the road while in Pa. My family lives there. Good thinking on Bill's part to put in those hook ups there. I wish I had a place to dump here. But then, it gives my tires a nice work out when I have to put everything away to drive to the dumpstation. Have a good time in Seattle.

  10. Great photos of your trip! We traveled part of the Lincoln Highway in Wyoming, saw the Lincoln Monument outside of Laramie. Hope you have a wonderful cruise. Can't wait to see those photos.

  11. Great travelogue of photos. I would have enjoyed hanging around and watching them bring in the corn by hand. That must have been hard. So Seattle is next. Sounds like fun! BTW, that was Juan in the picture third from left.
