Hotter than Hades...

This has been a very hot week...

Yeah...  that's our weather gauge....  the "actual" temperature outdoor is 109 degrees...  but.. hey, the heat index is 130 degrees...  so why do I feel like I'm in a sauna?  Well, heck, that's not hard to figure out....

Even the black vultures are feeling the heat...  this was around 7:30 this morning...  already they are spreading their wings and hoping to get a little cool air in those armpits...

I think the heat is making me a bit silly...  I'm beginning to look at the birds and putting my own captions to them...

Say...  Don't I look just like a Bittern?  Aw... come'on...  I may be a tiny hummingbird, but I can pretend can't I?

Yep..... Hoof and Mouth Disease...
Okay, maybe claw and mouth disease...  whatever....
At any rate, my darned claw had an itch and darned if she didn't catch me in mid scratch...

What am I doing when I'm not trying to get an embarrassing photo of birds...

staying inside and trying to do some of my sketches....
Colored pencils aren't my favorite medium, but when the temps are this high, I'll do about anything to keep from going outside.

Want to know what Bill looks like when he takes that boot off?
Okay, maybe you'd rather pass on this....
But...
This is the first summer in years (more than 30) that Bill hasn't worn jeans all summer.  So.. he's wearing his normal sock and shoe on his left foot...  but that "boot"comes nearly to his knee on his right leg.  AND... he's wearing shorts this summer!  (can't fit jeans over that boot)...  So....  he's getting a very interesting tan pattern on those lily white legs.

We're hanging in there....  another heat wave...
We have AC in the motorhome, and one of us stays inside during the really awful hours.  (the other of us continues to work in the shed, the garage, or wherever we feel the urge.)  Guess you can figure out who is who....

Quite honestly, when it's 110 degrees...  with the heat index of 128 degrees, this one of us is quite happy to stay in the motorhome and mess around with photos, sketches, or whatever....

I've spent the last 3 summers in Maine saying things like "I haven't been warm in 3 years" and other nonsense.  With that, I guess I'll just keep my big mouth shut .... otherwise I'll be like that little hummingbird...  foot in mouth disease.

That's All For Today!

  3. It's not that hot on South Padre, but it is hot. The heat index is always over 100. If I'm not working, I hide out in the RV. I don't like A/C and often have a shirt thrown over my shoulders to keep the cool air off me, but I need the A/C on. I go shopping, biking, etc very early in the morning.

  5. So the moral of the story is " Be careful what you wish for. You might get it."

  6. I cannot imagine functioning in that kind of heat. Road workers, for instance.

  7. Up here in Minnesota, it's been moderate temps and it's supposed to stay that way for another week. The highs are 80 and the overnight lows are perfect for sleeping. Ideal summer! Hope you get some relief soon!

  8. Next summer...back to Maine! Wow. I won't complain about how hot is here today: 86F. But, just to be clear, the real feel is ... 86F. But tomorrow is supposed to be 90 and feel like 93. OK, chilly in comparison to what you've got.

  9. Where are you? It's MUCH cooler here in the Sacramento area - only about 93 today; and, the nights have been cooling down into the upper 50s - almost unheard of at this time of year. I just checked and the weather's supposed to hold below 100 throughout the next several days.

    Howdy Sharon & Bill,
Shux, y'all ain't HOTTTT at all... We've had a cooool summer out here on the RunningStar Ranch, in Coleman county.. We got a new thermometer from the co-op, put it in the shade and the thing blew-up !!!! Only been about 117* in the cooool shade and I ain't never been to Hades,YET, but it couldn't be much HOTTTTTER !!!!! Personally I think Bill's 'tan-lines' are beautiful, kinda match mine, I wear shorts and moccasins, ride around doing what chores I can in my M-91 Pronto-Sure-step Electric wheelchair, and am tanned from mid-thigh to mid-top of my feet !! So, Bill's match mine, somewhat....
Y'all just feel hotter, down in the river bottoms, with all of the humididity !!!! I feel it when we get about to DeLeon or Stephenville... Granbury is NOTT tolerable; I know, my grandparents lived there and I spent some summer-time on the Brazos, a loooooong time ago !!!!! Wishing for some cooool for y'all...

Hope y'all have a delightful, cooooooler, HAPPY DAY, today !!!!!!!!!! I'm sittin' inside under the AC.....

  14. G O O D G R I E F ! 110 and not even a breeze? That's beyond H O T !

I hope you guys cool down soon, at least you have A/C - the poor animals and birds have to just live with it. And I think it's "wing pits," not "arm pits" for the first bird photo. LOL - that made me laugh. :)

And BTW, your sketch is beautiful-you are really talented.
