Victor, our son-in-law, took us to the DFW Airport early yesterday morning. We left the house at 6am and by 7:30 we were unloading our luggage at the departure terminal. Bill & I each checked one bag and each had a carry-on and a personal bag. We got lucky and were shuttled through the priority security area... didn't even have to take off our shoes! I have no idea why, but I suspect there are advantages to being old.
The flight left on time... 10:05 am and arrived at 1:40 pm, in Liberia, (pronounced Lee Bare e uh), Costa Rica. We had made arrangements with our rental company to have someone pick us up at the airport and take us the 20 miles or the place we'll be living for the next 3 months.
Apparently there was either a mix-up or a problem because there was no one waiting for us.
Bill called the rental place and was told they were on their way, they had been delayed.
After a bit of a wait, a man and his son arrived... and we headed to Playa de Coco.
The view from the airport...
Looking across the land over to a range of mountains...
I'll write more about our driver later... as we don't plan to rent a car while here, we'll probably be hiring them for "taxi" service.
The house we rented is actually a condo.... and is typical of Mexico and Central America, it's a "work in progress". Our place is quite nice... I'll include photos in another blog... and the view from the front is beautiful....
We are about 1.5 miles from town. We will probably rent bicycles to make getting around a bit easier. In the other direction, we're a mile or so from the beach. It looks like a resort area with lots of condos.
While our place has some drawbacks as to the distance to town or the beach, we are happy to see there are lots of birds around...
I didn't get very good photos this morning, but I saw several hummingbirds, and parrots...
Either a Boat-billed Flycatcher or a Great Kiskadee
Very similar to each other...
Unknown Bird
Hey... it was 6:30 am... I've not even unpacked the field guides yet!

I visited Costa Rica last year and stayed near San Antonio. I think I found Playa de Coco and it's further North along the Pacific coast - right? Have so much fun and new adventures.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait!

ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see photos of all the birds you're going to see! My husband doesn't have to remove his shoes at the airport either, but I still do. Guess I didn't age fast enough. . . .
ReplyDeleteAwesome. I'm guessing just a wee bit warmer than Texas?
