Farewell, Texas....

The water feature is as finished as it's going to be for now.  It's quite lovely and sounds wonderful.  Bill has put away tools, left over parts, and I don't know what all.  He's filled the deer feeders with corn and also filled the protein feeders.  Actually, I have no idea what all he's been doing...  guess I've been kind of busy myself.

I took the hummingbird feeders down this afternoon...  several little guys have come around looking for them, but there are still about a dozen hanging around the area.  Celeste does a great job of keeping her feeders filled and fresh.  There hasn't been a male painted bunting at the feeders for about 2 weeks now.  There are still some females, but the bird population has dropped off dramatically since the fledglings are well on their way to being adults and establishing their own territories.  I see a big drop in the cardinal count.

We've been here since June 14...  two months is a long time for us to stay anywhere, but this time was different.  It took the 2 months for Bill's ankle to heal.  He's doing okay, but it will take some time to rehab those muscles and tendons.  Not that it slowed him down much...  he loves coming to any of our kids homes especially if they have a list of "to-do"s for him.

At least a month of the time here the daily temps have been over 100 degrees.  That kind of weather just saps the energy right out of a person.  I've gone for my hour walk in the early morning, but will admit that I've spent many afternoon inside our air-conditioned motorhome.

Here in Texas, along the creek banks, there are cottonwood trees....
There may not be any water running over rocks in the creeks, but the cottonwood leaves rustle in the wind and make a beautiful sound.

Tomorrow we'll head west...  over towards Clovis, NM...  then Rt 60 over to Bernardo where Sevilleta NWR is located.  We've volunteered there in the past and hope to see some of our old friends.  Kind of funny to have lived in Seville, Spain and be in Sevilleta, N.M.  (little Seville) both in just a few months.  I've been craving a Green Chili Cheeseburger from Manny's Buckhorn...  a restaurant/bar that's located in the tiny town of San Antonio, NM.  The more famous restaurant, The Owl, is located just across the street, but, in my opinion, Manny's are better ;-)

Eventually we'll head on up to Farmington, NM...  Bill's hometown...  and visit his sister.  Sometime in mid-September we'll head east again...  back to Ohio for a few weeks.

While this might be my last post for a few days, I'm sure I'll catch y'all up on our where-abouts before too long.

Guess I better get busy and continue getting things ready for our next road trip.

That's All For Today!

  6. Bon voyage - or is it Buen viaje! Enjoy NM and I hope it's a little cooler for you. I've just crossed into Oregon from hot hot hot California's San Joaquin Valley. It's really more pleasant - only about 93 today in Ashland. I'm here for a week and look forward to learning about this part of Oregon.

  8. Tying down the movables, eh? I miss the rustle of the cottonwood in the back yard, but not the roots taking over the septic.

  9. It's always nice to hit the open road again after staying in one place for two months. We have 6 weeks to go before we start heading for the Southwest. Have fun and safe travels out there.
