Ashes to Ashes....

This is the view we had last night...  the fires are across the valley...  probably a half mile away....
We have no idea if they are set on purpose as a way for more serious fire control.  They burn off the brush, but seem to only travel so far, then burn out.

We're sitting on our front stoop...  looking across.  We have a terrific view of the hills at all times, but when they are on fire, it becomes a little more exciting.

There aren't any houses in that area.  At least none that we know of nor any we can see.

We never hear any fire alarms...  in fact, I don't think we've seen a fire truck in our time here....

You can see a wide span of fires here...  separate fires...  each spectacular on their own.

Who needs a television when we have such great entertainment right across the valley?

That's All For Today!

  1. Sounds like they are probably some kind of controlled burns.
Enteretaining at the very least as long as they stay away from the house.

  2. Hope the wind is blowing the smoke and smell in the other direction.

  3. I have been way too close to a couple of uncontrolled forest fires. Both set by the old steam locomotives. Am I giving away my age??

  4. They do controlled burns in Montana and as long as they are under control, it's okay. But then you get those idiots who go off and don't tend to it. Then they are scary. And I hated the fact my eyes always burned from the smoke when we lived there.

  5. Yes, quite the entertainment! I hope the air quality is still okay. I'd think with those controlled burns, they wouldn't last too long,so the air probably isn't an issue. :)

  6. Wow. That would be a bit scary to see from that distance (but exciting). Hope it's all as innocent and as safe as it seems.
