We left our daughter's house near Glen Rose around 9am yesterday morning. Drove up to Benbrook and around the south side of Ft Worth and Dallas on I 20... stayed on I 20 all the way to Shreveport. At 261 miles on the road we were at the west end of Shreveport, LA and a Wal-Mart was close by. Perfect!
I even found 2 geocaches near the Wal-Mart parking lot.... you just can't beat that!
This morning is was off again... I 20, but we took the I220 bypass which runs north of Shreveport, and keeps us out of traffic. Since we left shortly after 7am the traffic was light all around the by-pass. Back on to I 20... heading towards Vicksburg, Mississippi... where we'll get on the Natchez Trace.
I took photos along the way, but right now we're dry-camped and unless I plug into the inverter, I need to conserve batteries. Our MiFi is such a wonderful gadget... the last time we stayed in this campground we had the dish... what a difference this is!
We got on the Natchez Trace at Clinton, Miss.... and headed north.
Today... 325 miles later, We're at the Jeff Busby Campground... it's just off the Trace and part of the National Park System, it's free and, I might add, quite lovely.
We've stayed here a couple of times in the past.... I think this is our 3rd time to travel north on the Natchez Trace... you can tell we love it.
I posted the wrong speed limit... it's 50 MPH all the way (not the 55 mph I wrote), so it's a nice, easy-going trip. We're disappointed that the wildflowers and flowering trees seem past their prime... but it's green and that's wonderful!
Also... that "blue bird". Thanks folks for correcting me. I have a ton of photos of the lazuli bunting I took in Utah a few years ago... but looking out my RV window, seeing that bird and knowing that bluebirds (the REAL bluebirds) are building a nest not 50' from where this guy was in the tree, I "assumed" he was a bluebird. I've also come to the conclusion that our tinted RV windows do not allow me to take "color accurate" photos. So... my mistake. And to top it off... as I watched that bird flit around the buds of that tree, I was thinking... hmmm... not the usual habit of a bluebird... but... hey we all know what happens when you assume something. ;-)
Gotta make this quick... probably won't catch up on the blogs I read for a couple of days... but I will... you folks are too wonderful to miss!
Tomorrow it's a few more miles north...

ReplyDeleteWe followed a section of the Natchez Trace northward back in January of 04 near Tupelo Mississippi & I remember how impressed I was with it. Scenic, no big trucks, & the traffic was refreshingly light. I remember lots of big trees along the road like driving through a forest.

ReplyDeleteHave you checked what the weather is like back in Ohio? The further north you get there should be more flowers in their prime. The old saying up where I was born was, "April showers bring May flowers".
ReplyDeleteAwww, the Natchez is just beautiful!!! Mike and I have never traveled the entire Trace but it is definitely on our list of things to do. Don't you just love the speed limit, no big trucks, no commercial businesses...just nature and lots of it. :-)

ReplyDeleteSafe travels! I am not a birder by any stretch of the imagination, I usually have to depend on bird lady Judy but lazuli buntings I do recognize. I eagerly await their arrival each year, usually around May 15, I used to have literally hordes of them but since we moved up the creek from our old house I don't get as many. I guess they like open spaces rather than creek side/trees.
