New Year's Eve... Costra Rican Style

It's rare for me and Bill to be out after dark...  but we know we'll be taking a taxi home, so we head into the little town of Coco around 4pm...  we're going to see how New Year's Eve is celebrated here.  We head to the park, which runs all along the coast.  The beaches here are all public, so they are used and enjoyed by everyone.

We sat and watched the people...  so much activity...  so much food...  so much fun!
Lots of street vendors....  all kinds of food.  A lot of "finger foods".  Ice cream, and plenty to drink.
Lots of people in the water, but even more stretched out on blankets on the beach.
A lively volley ball game with lots of spectators.
An inflated "bouncey' house...  kids went inside and bounced around.
Lots of people walking around...  sitting around....  stopping to talk with friends.
Loud music...  various kinds of music...  but loud and fast!

We stopped and watched these guys for quite a while...
Skate Boards and Bicycles!
These guys (and they were all guys) did some pretty fancy tricks on their skateboards.  Another group of boys were quite acrobatic on their bicycles.  We had a great time watching them...  but I'll have to admit I wondered about the lack of helmets or other safety gear.  Oh well, I'm a mom...  we tend to worry.

It got dark...  the party revved up a few notches...  we headed to the main street....  New Year's Eve...  we'll eat out.
We chose a restaurant that is on the 2nd level...  on a balcony overlooking the street.  I had maui maui on  "vegetables in a filo nest, with guacamole", and Bill had tangerine glazed camerones. (shrimp)
We had a great meal and could watch all the activity going on down below.  In the lower middle photo a girl is getting her hair braided.  The photo on the lower right is of 3 policia walking the streets.  In the hours we were in town we saw nothing illegal or even remotely out of place.

The traffic was controlled to allow pedestrians the lions share of the streets.  After our dinner, the restaurant called us a taxi and home we went.

Here's to you, my family and friends...
May the New Year bring you happiness, good health, prosperity, love...  and peace.
Happy New Year!

That's All For Today!

  8. It was way too noisy around here. Sounded like a WW2 battle going on. Now you two do know how to celebrate New Year's Eve.

  11. What a neat way to watch the celebrations with a great view, good food, drink and from a safe distance in case it got out of hand. How nice to know some people can celebrate and not break laws. Their Chamber of Commerce should pay you for these posts.
