They're Back!

A couple of days ago Celeste spotted the first of this year's Painted Buntings at her feeder.  Wasn't long before they started visiting ours as well...
What a beauty!
So far I've only seen one at a time, and have yet to see a female...  but I know before long, there will be many around.

And...  this is a picture I posted last year, but it's still one of my favorites...
We saw this girl at the local H.E.B. (grocery)...  a dead-ringer for one of my favorite birds.
She allowed me take her picture...  said she didn't know about Painted Buntings...  but oh my!  she couldn't have done better!

Tomorrow is our last day here in Glen Rose.  Finally finished the medical stuff that needed done.  The water line isn't finished, but hopefully Victor won't return to work real soon and will have time to work on it.

We haven't decided yet on a route to drive to Ohio.  It's been a couple of years since we drove the Natchez Trace... from Natchez up to Nashville...  and are thinking it would be beautiful this time of year.  It's a 2 lane / 55mph National Park road and has a couple of campgrounds as well as lots of informational pullovers.

Don't know...  we'll see.

The time here passed very quickly...  but I'm getting excited about seeing family in Ohio soon.

That's All For Today!

  1. How neat you got a painted bunting before you left. They are beautiful!
    Safe trip.

  2. That girl is sure a match for the painted bunting male. Maybe they ought to get together (grin). Up where you are heading there is a saying, April showers bring May flowers. So, you are leaving early summer here and will wind up in very early Spring.

  3. Yup, she just got her head and tail mixed up, but other than that, she's a dead ringer for a Bunting.

  4. I remember that picture from last year. My, new to me, route north this year is proving quite interesting. Along with higher winds than what was predicted. :(

  5. Sounds like you want to get to Ohio in a hurry, the Natchez trace is a wonderful drive but will take you longer.
Love the hair and the bird!
    Travel safe!

  6. I've never seen one of those birds. Are they all over Texas? I will have to be on the look out next time I'm in Austin. Safe travels to Ohio.

  8. I'd love to see that beautiful painted bunting in my lifetime. I do remember your post with the young lady's hair color. Wonder if she's become a birder since meeting you? I'm homebound in my daughter's home after knee surgery but still love to read of my virtual friends' travel adventures. Thanks for this post.

  10. That is a nicely painted up bird, like a rainbow. So you'll soon be on the move again, north. No bad weather I hope will you see, seems like there is so much of that extreme going around, but not here. Sun today. No painted buntings though. Just some Mourning Doves and a couple of Scrub Jays to boot.

  12. We don't get painted buntings here but we do get lazuli buntings and goldfinches and rosy red finches--that's about the extent of our colorful birds. This is the time of year the birds eat us out of house and home!

  14. We stayed there in April 2011 and saw a lot of birds. I remember we had some sleepless nights due to thunderstorms and tornado warnings. I think the park hosts were the only other people there. It's a very pretty area.
